The third dimension has always fascinated me. Feeling clay’s plasticity in my hands changes my mood: my thinking slows down and becomes lighter. Everything becomes simpler and clearer.

Ceramics

Man first made ceramic objects almost 10,000 years ago when, having become sedentary, he discovers that fire can transform mud into something more durable. He makes containers in which to keep food and drink, decorating them with reliefs of objects from nature or engravings.

The word ceramics derives from the Greek ‘kèramos’, ‘argilla’ and includes a wide variety of materials obtained by mixing clays with other soils. These then get fired and finished with a glaze or varnish.

Ceramics quickly became a decorative and artistic element as much as a practical one in cultures of all people around the world. It’s been used in different forms and for different purposes: from the everyday tableware of the neolithic to the making of statues, from flooring in the form of tiles to exclusively decorative objects, from its use in modern product design to its abundant use in buildings by the construction industry.
